rating the snufkin plushies

inspired off a tierlist where i found my own picture of my snufkin plush. thanks man!

starting off with the plush that i own:

i'm biased. i'd give him a million points. he's literally perfect in every single shape and form aside from his color palette being swapped (shirt and scarf.)

things i love about this plush that people may not know: he has a full head of hair underneath the hat - and his hat is lined inside with a very nice fabric. and his hair is very on-model to 1990s anime snufkin. his backpack has actual pockets that you can put stuff in! he's also... 22-24 inches tall, (counting the hat) and his SHOES oh my god his shoes are HEAVY. those boot soles make sound because they are heavy.

also lmfao i could take off his shirt if i wanted to but id rather not thanks. he's also very soft but he is atrocious to cuddle with because of the hat's fabric being rougher than everything else. realism points!

only a few days ago did i found out which company he's probably from, since i saw a slightly smaller variant of this plush on carousell.ph!

it's likely he's made by Sun Arrow (and the tag for this plush matches up because it says 1990.) but i cant tell for sure because there are MULTIPLE variants, similar-looking plushies made by Banpresto. though i prefer the yellow shirt variants presumably by Sun Arrow

Circle K Romancing Moomin Series

9.6/10. He's everything. He is so squishy looking. One of the cutest. I love his dopey eyes. He's being resold for insane prices over here (750php?! Without a paper tag? Are you nuts?) but I would shill out for him. Actually the plush I wanted to get before settling on my big Snufkin plush. I lost the opportunity to buy the Circle K plush. Maybe it just isn't my time to own him.

Martinex

Words cannot describe how much I dislike the Martinex plushies and it hurts my soul that they're the one listed on Moomin shop. He gives me nightmares. He's so ugly and not even the endearingly ugly. He looks like a frat boy. I hate his paws, they embroidered every damn digit in black in other releases of this plush.

-12/10. Horrid.

This is somebody's grandpa.

Martinex's only redeeming Snufkin doll. 2/10 because even then he looks atrocious if you don't get one with fluffy hair.

Dream C&C

Cute. Released in 2016 by a South Korean manufacturer. Rare one. Love the flowers. Looks like a Sekiguchi plush. Faux-leather boots, though... those are hard to maintain looking nice over time. 9.9/10, only because of the leather boots factor but he looks super cute

Sekiguchi

Bare with me. There's a lot of Snufkin plushies that Sekiguchi produced and I like a good chunk of them. Usually a hit.

8.7/10 The definitive Snufkin plush. Everyone thinks of this one when they think of a Snufkin plush. But his hair gets all out of sorts as time goes on and his hat is made out of felt which curls and folds up really easily.

Now, I'm gonna blitz through the other ones. There's a shit ton.

8.5/10. Can they PLEASE stop with the felt hat. This one's cute.

8.3/10 solely that high because hes so derpy i love it all the pics i see of this one have cat mouths cause of the stitching he is so cute

9.5/10 A slightly more high quality version of the Circle K plush, bigger too. But alas... I do not like the colors nearly as much on this one compared to the Circle K variant. Also God, those faux leather boots.

Takara Tomy Arts Co.

9/10, These ones are modelled after Moominvalley 2019. And every creature knows I have a soft spot for Moominvalley 2019. And by damn is he cute. I do feel it's a shame they didn't make him ginger, because, by all accounts, 2019/CGI Snufkin has ginger hair. But I suppose it'd look off.

He has a really cute mullet lol and I like his shoes. He looks soft! Really soft.

I just want to mention the Tomy Little My plush because my God are the tiny ones super cute.

Taito

8.9/10 he's so cute i just dont like how easily his flowercrown peels off :( from oomf's experience. apparently i got this one wrong earlier! this is a taito plush, sorry!

9/10 Play that funky music white boy... I like the sunflower. he looks joyous and content and happy

All variations of this plush (keychain / large ) are super funny to me idk why but he embodies comic snufkin so well. 8.5/10

6.9/10 biased cause i want this one. His boots r flat felt though but he's silly.

Moomin 60th Anniversary plush. Real feather on his hat. The blush on is cute. Not a fan of the hair Taito uses but 9/10, HE'S EXPENSIVE AS SHIT.

Medialink Pacific

7.8/10 Heart for my sweety... I hate that boot fabric so bad im srs but the tag for this is cute so ill let it slide

Another one I actually own. Love his resting bitch face. He's pale, like really pale. 5.6/10

4.2/10 Fingerpuppet plush. Has the 'The Story of Moominvalley' tag. Eyes are printed on(?) slash decals stickers/painted.

Aurora World

7.9/10 He's so derpy and he looks high i find him so charming. i like their little my plush too!

Same thing but smaller. Again the one sold on Moomin shop. God someone get the martinex plushies off the shelf please smite the martinex plushies off the shelf

Kebom Trading

1/10 The long defunct Kebom Trading plushies. Hardest to find proper photos of but I could vaguely remember the most horrifying Little My and Snufkin plush from it. This guy right here is no exception. Why was there a phase in the 1990s with the fuzzy horrid fabric and button eyes? They look terrible. This guy's ugly but not Martinex ugly. The only thing that's redeeming about him is the flowers on his hat.

I can't find the listing anymore, but trust me, there was a Snufkin variant of the plush above and it was so fucking ugly I screamed in horror. I have nightmares.

Banpresto

I can't even get mad at it. He embodies the joyful whimsy of comic Snufkin too much. In fact, in contrary to all his flaws, what I would normally hate, I think he's amazing. Superb. My child. He's everything I wouldn't like yet against all odds, I find him insanely cute. 6/10

9.8/10 Aforementioned Banpresto lookalike. If I could recall correctly, three years ago I was searching for the origins of my own plush and came across this. Apparently this is from 2001 and a UFO-Catcher prize machine. Comes with the Harmonica variant. They are so very lovely. However the ones I see of this one, that aren't sold yet, have damage on his foot / paint peeling off.
